MILAN FW23
Milan Fashion Week lasted from Tuesday February 21 - Monday February 27. Below I analyzed Dolce & Gabbana, Ferragamo, and Fendi’s runway shows each with trends I believe will be popular for Fall/Winter 2023.
1. Dolce & Gabbana
Dolce & Gabbana was established in 1985 by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Partners in life and in business, they opened their first fashion-consulting studio in Milan in 1982. They began making their own garments in their apartment and ten years later introduced their first Menswear line. And in 1992 they launched their first perfume ‘Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme’ and ‘Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme’ both winning the best masculine and feminine fragrance from the Perfume Academy in their respective categories. They continue to produce products that embody the essence of Italian style and culture.
Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall Winter 2023 collection was luxurious to a ‘T’. They have been one of the main innovators when it comes to lingerie dressing, and they incorporated many sheer lingerie pieces. Several looks were covered head to toe in fur including a long black fur detailed trench coat. As well as a black feather fur hat. In comparison many looks were monochromatic glossy trenches, sets, and one pieces. Dolce & Gabbana encompasses a luxurious less is more aesthetic while offering new daring styles.
2. Ferragamo
Ferragamo began by making luxurious Italian shoes. He studied shoemaking in Naples for a year then moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he sold shoes out of his parents' house.
He then moved to California where he began making shoes exclusively for Hollywood. Ferragamo moved back to Italy and opened up his own exclusive luxurious shop. In 1960, Salvatore Ferragamo died at aged 62. His wife, Wanda Ferragamo Miletti took over the company. What differentiates Ferragamo from other luxury brands is obtained by combining style, creativity and innovation with the quality and craftsmanship typical of Italian-made goods.
Ferraagamo’s Creative Director, Maximilian Davis showed his second collection for the house. Appropriately titled "Cinema," FW23 was indeed a stylish work of art. Glamorous metallic dresses and silky drapes was a Hollywood Revival. We also saw many different handbags ranging from large over the shoulder totes to mini clutches. There were also many monochromatic pieces drawing attention to the craftmanship of each garment.
3. Fendi
The Fendi fashion house was created in 1925 in Rome by Adele and Edoardo Fendi. The brand began by making leather goods, which they're still famous for today. When Edoardo died in 1946, Adele and her daughters carried on with the business, never wavering as a fashion house focused on innovation and beauty. In 2020 Kim Jones joined Fendi as the Creative Director.
Kim Jones described his Fall Winter collection for Fendi as being “pure, simple but complex...” . The collection features masculine tailoring with utilitarian deconstruction, and many pieces featured asymmetrical necklines. Fendi also featured their newest handbag, The Fendi Multi, which can be used in multiple different ways. Fendi’s color palette was airy andsimple with a few bright pops oof color.
