LNDN FW 23

London Fashion Week lasted from February 17- February 21, here are a few designers I looked into including some trends I have spotted and color palettes for Fall/Winter 2023.

1. Burberry

Burberry was founded in 1856 when 21-year-old Thomas Burberry, a former draper's apprentice, opened his own store in Basingstoke, Hampshire, England. By 1870, the business had established itself by focusing on the development of outdoors attire. One of the most notable characteristics of the Burberry brand is its consistency over time, as well as its innovation, craftsmanship, and heritage.

During the 1920s, the production company decided to step up its game by introducing a checkered design. The structure was registered as a trademark in 1921, and it has become an integral part of the brand identity since then. In 1967, the brand moved from making only clothes to also making bags, scarves, and umbrellas with this design. In 2018, Peter Saville and Riccardo Tisci replaced the equestrian logo with the new Burberry logo. As an interlocking of the two initials, TB, Thomas Burberry was the inspiration behind the new design.

The current creative director, Danile Lee, celebrated what is great about this country. Backstage, he name-checked the late, Vivienne Westwood as a source of inspiration. Westwood’s inspiration was felt in the tartan prints and the slogan T-shirts. He also said that he was inspired more broadly by the people of London, the people of Britain, and this is what he wanted to show to the world. “For me, it's celebrating what's great about Britain,” Lee said to a group of editors after the show. “Look at Vivienne, and all the many examples of amazing people from this city. You can walk down the street and you're surrounded by all different lives living together. That's something I've missed. I want it to be positive and show some positivity about Britain's place in the world.”

The iconic trench coat is what he opened the show with, and presented it in a darker, greener, hue than we have seen. It was also cut in an oversized fit and faux fur-trimmed lapels were added. Lee was known for his cult bags at Bottega, therefore all eyes were also on the accessories. Lee presented saddles and satchels, which he said he wanted to be considered functional and sturdy, the same of which could be said for the footwear, much of which was casual and practical. There were rubber rain boots, equestrian boots and elevated sneakers. There were also a. few statement hats, including many in faux-fur, and some which felt very tongue-in- cheek, including one that resembled a duck, inspired by the London parks.

2. Moncler Genius

Founded in 1952 by René Ramillon and André Vincent, the name is an abbreviation of Monestier-de-Clermont, a village in the mountains near Grenoble, France. The first quilted

jackets were conceived for protecting workers from the cold. Tradition, uniqueness, quality, consistency and energy have always been the distinctive features of the Moncler brand that over the years has been able to evolve while remaining consistent with its DNA, heritage and identity. Moncler is also in a continuous search for an open dialogue with its many consumers in the world.

Italian luxury brand Moncler unveiled an expansion of its Moncler Genius collaborations project at London Fashion Week on Monday, February 20, introducing new “co-creators” in the realms of art, music, design and sport. Moncler said it was evolving from the Moncler Genius fashion collaborations project it launched in 2018, where guest designers presented different versions of its jackets, “to a platform for co-creation across different industries”.

Pherrel Williams was surrounded by models dressed in khaki camping outerwear walking around a set covered in grass. Others posed in a range of colorful puffer jackets, coats and gloves in the Adidas space.

Mercedes Benz also had a special display of an artistic interpretation of its new “ultimate discovery machine”. This was a new Mercedes art piece titled “PROJECT MONDO G” , it was the classic Mercedes-Benz off-roader G-Class, covered in a Moncler puffer jacket. Moncler’s unique take on their co-collaborating show caught everyone’s attention and received positive feedback from many.

3. 16. Arlington

Founded by partners in life and work, Marco Capaldo and late Federica Cavenati founded 16Arlington in London in 2017. They debuted their first collection at London Fashion Week in. 2020. The brand is focused on “captivating tension between the subversive and the sensual.” 16 Arlington’s new collection debuted yesterday as part of London Fashion Week, the brand also welcomed a new line of menswear that followed in the footsteps of its subtler womenswear looks.

The collection named “Wake” quite literally, as its new direction for menswear awoke something in its womenswear. Sheer, deep plunged necklines and feathers ran the show, but there was also a sense of softness to these sexy pieces.

Faux fur was used like a suit of armor for a top that transformed the silhouette. Sequins were used in a multitude of ways, across a two-piece dress, and delicately placed on a soft woolen v- neck sweater. As for the menswear, softness was achieved, as the first men’s look used gray wool in a loose-fitting, tailored track suit manner. A men’s top incorporated feminine touches of chest-closing laces.

One men’s look focusing on the long, black faux coat was overpowered by the brown crocodile leather Kikka bag. The Kikka bag was named after the late 16Arlington co-founder Federica “Kikka” Cavenati.
