Carolina Herrera
Carolina Herrera Fall/Winter 2023 Fashion Show’s Venue took place at The Plaza Hotel. For over 100 years, The Plaza has been the New York hotel to see and be seen. Presidents, Kings, celebrities and stars have all stayed at The Plaza, the perfect setting for Herrera’s eccentric but elegant new collection. Inspired by the “discipline and grandeur” of 19th century European royal, Empress Elisabeth ‘Sisi’ of Austria, The Plaza’s ambiance was more than fitting. “Sisi serves as the starting point for this season, heralding the unapologetic embrace of beauty and high drama,” the show notes read.
Throughout the collection Gordon emphasized florals, stripes, and monochromatic looks with a few outliers including eccentric oversized tulle skirts and dresses. Dramatic thick stripes and delicate florals were a harmonious combination of sophistication and femininity. Scoop necks and strapless gowns extenuated collarbones and shoulders, a sign of sexiness during the 1850s. The models’ hair was pulled back with minimalistic makeup and a few pieces of statement jewelry. An outstanding theme throughout the show was the incorporation of capes. Both long and short, the dramatic capes offered a sophisticated elegance to the vibrant prints. Much like Empress Sissi was “unafraid to break rules and stand out” so did Gordon’s collection.

Sandy Liang
Sandy Liang is a 27-year-old designer and Queens native. After graduating from Parsons School of Design in 2013 she launched her namesake brand, ‘Sandy Liang’. Liang uses her Chinese roots as inspiration when working on her collections. She is known for her asymmetrical silhouettes and tomboy-ish looks.
The Sandy Liang show took place at the New York Academy of Medicine in the Library Reading Room with music by Parker Radcliffe. Liang’s Fall Winter 2023 Collection was a combination of veils, lace, dainty flowers, bows, Juliet sleeves and layered utilitarian pieces. She is carrying on balletcore, as well as a new take on it that is being coined as pageantcore . Several mini dresses were paired with satin sashes and dainty roses. Tulle crowns, lace accents and intricate bow detailing offers a hyper-feminine aesthetic. In contrast, Liang crossed thick utilitarian fabrics with feminine necklaces and Juliet sleeves. As well as several monochromatic pieces with small bows everywhere, giving a sophisticated coming of age look.
Many of the pieces were paired with double strap Mary Jane ballet flats which complimented the detailed pageantcore aesthetic. Although Liang clearly communicated her sweet girly-girl side, she also offered some gender-less pieces with thick utilitarian greys, browns, and black. She also featured her first full length gown in a bright crimson red with a large bow hanging from the chest.

Love Shack Fancy (LSF)
Rebecca Cohen launched Love Shack Fancy in 2013, previously she was a fashion editor and noticed a gap in the market. She was looking for her bridesmaids' dresses and nothing fit the aesthetic she wanted. Cohen and her mother designed silk halter dresses and started hand dying them vibrant colors in her backyard. They sold them at trunk shows in the Hamptons and her label took off quickly. She then created a capsule collection of eight hand dyed silk dresses and separates. LSF is now an international brand and can be instantly recognized for its unique vibrant, vintage prints.
Love Shack Fancy gained immense popularity over the pandemic, especially with Gen Z. Its femininity and dainty details speak volumes about Cohen’s inspiration behind her label. She grew up dressed in Laura Ashley and used her travels to different countries as a framework for each collection.
For Fall/Winter 2023, Cohen debuted her designs at The Plaza Hotel, an elegant venue to showcase her ruffles, frills and bows. The overarching theme for this collection was, “Our girl is growing up”. She wanted to portray a sweet young girl growing up with an edge. This theme was evident through the carefree, spontaneous yet delicate pieces. Bows and ruffles accented a black mini dress as well as an oversized blazer. Blush pinks and creams remained a constant throughout the show, as well as several lace skirts and fur jackets. Cohen beautifully mixed dark plaid and leather jackets with pink tulle and silk dresses. The models hair carelessly fell in beach waves with minimal makeup, allowing the whimsical dresses to be the center of attention. Cohen is the must have label for boho-chic vintage-inspired fashion.
